The World's Happiest 5K (:

August 31, 2014

Back with my JC clique for yet another run, after last year's Illumi Run! This year, we took part in 'the world's #happiest5k' THE COLOUR RUN (:
You sign up for either the 30 AUG or 31 AUG run, both are the same except that they are on different days. Ours was 30th but I have friends who signed up for the 31st run which is today hahaha
Super glad we managed to get the tickets this year because I missed it last year!

Here's a brief on The Colour Run

''The Color Run was founded in March of 2011 as an event to promote healthiness and happiness by bringing the community together to participate in the “Happiest 5k on the Planet”. We are the original paint race and have created a completely new genre of running events that continues to grow exponentially. Now the single largest event series in the United States, The Color Run has exploded since our debut event. We have more than tripled our growth, hosting more than 170 events in 30+ countries in 2013.''

How the event works

Less about your 10-minute-mile and more about having the time of your life, The Color Run is a five-kilometer, un-timed race in which thousands of participants, or “Color Runners”, are doused from head to toe in different colors at each kilometer. With only two rules, the idea is easy to follow:
  1. Wear white at the starting line
  2. Finish plastered in color!
The fun continues after Color Runners complete the race with an unforgettable Finish Festival. This larger than life party is equipped with music, dancing and massive color throws, which create millions of vivid color combinations. Trust us, this is the best post-5k party on the planet!

Without further ado, let's bring out the happy and colourful faces hahaha

Okay, the colour run was really fun with all the powder being thrown at you, around you, anywhere and everywhere BUT there were many times when I was silently cursing when some idiot threw powder into my eyes and it hurts a lot.
Also, when we reached the checkpoints where we get coloured in powder, I could not breathe at some point due to all the powder in the air and so I had to hold my breath and run to a more open space to gasp for precious air..
After party!! Great fun and all but again, the powder problem. This was the worst of all because everyone's packed like sardines and the moment when the emcees go '5,4,3,2,1...' and everyone happily throws all the powder in their powder packs with wild abandon, I swear I almost suffocated. I was choking and coughing from inhaling the humongous cloud of colourful powder but... I survived.
Nonetheless, I think my lifespan is shortened after breathing in so much powder hahaha.
Darren let me sit on his shoulders during the afterparty and it was really cool! I felt so tall for the first time in my life! Wanted to take pictures of all these but my phone was left in my bag because I was in a hurry to drop off my baggage :( Oh wells, but at least we have our photos thanks to Jy who brought along her phone (:
Cheerleading? hahaha I'm just glad that Darren managed to lift me because I am so heavy! I hope my future boyfriend does not die under my weight hahaha
Here's ending off with a from-the-bottom shot of our Merlion against the bright blue sky (:

It's the last day of August and September is waiting excitedly. Let it be a month where we will continue to have the strength to overcome challenges and never stop finding joy in all that is around us.
Happy Sunday all (:
